What Are Black Points?

Black points (also called demerit points) are penalty markers added to your driving record whenever you commit a traffic violation. Unlike fines, which are one-time financial penalties, black points accumulate. Reach certain thresholds and your licence is automatically suspended or permanently cancelled.

The system is designed to identify and remove dangerous drivers from the road before a serious accident occurs. Every violation adds a set number of points regardless of whether you pay the corresponding fine — the two are independent.

Yes. The UAE traffic system is unified. Points from any emirate accumulate on your national driving record. Moving between emirates does not reset your balance.
