Al Khalidiyah is one of Abu Dhabi's older, well-established island neighbourhoods: wide tree-lined streets, a mix of villas and apartment blocks, and a short hop from the Corniche. For learners it's a useful blend — calm inner streets for early lessons, the busier Al Khalidiyah Street and Al Khaleej Al Arabi for intermediate practice, and quick access to Corniche roundabouts that mirror the road test.

No licensed school in Khalidiyah itself. EDC (Mussafah) is reached via the Mussafah bridge or Sheikh Zayed Tunnel; YDA is on Yas Island. Many instructors count the drive as lesson time. Times approximate, traffic-dependent.
The driving-licence eye test was privatised in 2021. Major opticians such as Al Jaber Optical, Yateem and Grand Optics are approved, and the result is sent in digitally. Find the nearest approved centre with the TAMM 'Driving Institute, Optician or Translation Centre' locator on tamm.abudhabi.
Opening your file, booking and most licence paperwork are handled online through TAMM or the TAMM app — no typing centre needed for most steps. Your driving school can also open the file for you, and TAMM service points across the city handle anything that needs to be done in person.
Abu Dhabi has no standalone road-test centre. The road test is run by whichever school you train with — EDC out of Mussafah or YDA on Yas Island — under the Integrated Transport Centre. Your instructor's job is to get you ready for that specific school's routes.

Once licensed, the main adjustments are the Corniche traffic at peak times and the one-way sections near the district edges. The roads are wide and forgiving compared with the dense city core, which makes Khalidiyah a comfortable place to build early solo confidence.
For residents, day-to-day means Mawaqif paid parking (busy near the apartment blocks) and the usual TAMM admin for renewals and replacements. Nothing here needs a centre visit for most licence tasks.
